Carnegie Hall: Opening Night

130 years of performance, brought together for an empty hall.

For Carnegie Hall’s first virtual opening-night gala, 59 Studio was asked to create a title sequence celebrating the venue’s history while setting an upbeat tone for an audience watching from around the world.

As Senior Video Designer, I developed and animated the sequence, combining archive photography, concert ephemera, typography and footage of the empty hall into a fast-moving collage spanning generations of performance.

130 years in motion

The sequence began inside an empty Carnegie Hall, with fragments of past performances appearing as if projected back into the space.

From there, it broke into a more kinetic visual language: archive photographs, programmes, typography and different eras overlapping into one continuous composition.

The approach became deliberately loose and layered, allowing the history to feel alive rather than simply chronological.
