Guns N’ Roses: Appetite for Destruction

Thirty years of Appetite for Destruction, reimagined from the artwork out.

For the album’s 30th anniversary, Universal Music asked Whitecoat Creative Lab for a celebratory animated promo with almost no prescribed creative direction.

As Senior Motion Designer, I developed the story, visual language and animation alongside Maxwell Broughton, building the piece from script and storyboard through 3D, compositing and final animation.

A rougher edge

The visual language came directly from the character of the album artwork.

We reimagined the band as skeletons and built a gritty, overprinted world around them, combining 3D animation with dropped frames, moving textures and heavy post-processing to make the imagery feel less computer-generated and more tactile.

Once that language clicked, it became the rule for the whole piece: fast camera moves, abrupt transitions and a deliberately rough finish that carried the energy of the record.
